Testing Application Guidelines

General guidelines for registering and taking the ARRT Limited Scope of Practice in Radiology examination and the Bone Densitometry Equipment Operator examination within the state of Tennessee.
IMPORTANT: You can only have 1 application open at a time. You must wait to receive your scores before you can submit another application.

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) has contracted with Pearson VUE testing centers throughout the nation, including the state of Tennessee, to administer the Limited Scope and Bone Densitometry examinations. All examinations are administered by way of computer based testing. All individuals wishing to sit for either of these ARRT examinations in Tennessee must register with Limited Scope Testing (LST).

STEP-BY-STEP instructions to sit for the ARRT Limited Scope and Bone Densitometry examinations.
  • Complete the LST application using ARRT guidelines for acceptable identification.

  • Enclose the appropriate examination fee, a copy of the course completion certificate for each exam, and a copy of your 2 acceptable forms of identification. Your application will not be submitted without them.
  • LST submits applications directly to ARRT every Wednesday.
  • You should receive an informational packet directly from ARRT within the 2 weeks following the submission of your application. Call LST if you do not.
  • The packet received from ARRT contains:
    1. A Candidate Status Report (CSR) contains your identification information, your ARRT ID number, and your examination 90-day window dates. Be sure your name on the CSR matches your 2 IDs that you plan on using for admission to the  test center.  Check to be sure the modules listed on the CSR are the modules you should be taking. In the event there is an error or omission, contact LST immediately to make the correction before scheduling your appointment.
    2. On the back of the CSR, is a toll free telephone number for the Pearson VUE scheduling center. Contact Pearson VUE utilizing the toll free number to schedule a convenient location and date for your examination that falls within your 90-day window. You may also sign up online by utilizing the menu item TESTING CENTER, at the top of this page.
    3. The Examination Handbook for state licensing exams, this booklet gives you valuable information and explains the testing procedure.
  • On the day of your appointment, arrive early.  Pearson VUE personnel will assist you in getting started. If you are late you will not be admitted and you will forfeit your fees.
  • ARRT Exam Results
    When you complete your examination, your answers are automatically transmitted to ARRT. You should receive your scores directly from LST by email within the 2 weeks following your examination date. Call LST if you do not.

Refund policy:
  • If the student contacts LST before the application is submitted to ARRT (each Wednesday), LST can hold the application for a future submission at no additional charge.
  • If a student wishes to cancel  an application while it is still in the LST office, a 50% refund is made. Once the application is sent to ARRT (each Wednesday), there is NO refund.
  • Any dates missed by the student without following proper re-windowing guidelines results in forfeiture of fees and requires repeat registration by way of the entire application cycle.
